To
ensure a successful swimming season parents
are required to work at least 3 meets during the season. As you can
imagine, it takes a lot of hands to have a meet with over 200 children. The
Bullfrogs truly appreciate all your help.
POSSIBLE
JOBS INCLUDE:
Starter/Referee
The chief official of
the meet. Initiates every event using a starting gun or an electronic starter.
Signs the meet sheet.
* Previous experience
as stroke and turn judge as well as training clinic Required
Lane
Marshals
The meet director or starter/referee will instruct the marshals in lane
requirements for warm-up sessions. The marshals will remain on deck during the
entire warm-up session and ensure that all safety guidelines are followed by all
swimmers during this period.
Stroke
& Turn Judge
Determines that all swimmers are executing the proper strokes and turns as set
forth by United States Swimming rules. A disqualified swimmer earns no points.
Two judges are needed if a diving well divides one side of the pool. Judges also
judge the relay starts to ensure no early starts.
* Training Clinic
Required, must walk 2 meets with a certified official to complete certification
for position.
Place
Judge
Visually
determines the finishing order of all swimmers in individual events and the
first place in a relay. Completes place judge card for each event.
Announcer
Announces event
numbers and the names of all the participants. Makes other general
announcements.
Head
Timer
Acts as backup timer
in case of a timing failure in any lane.

Lane
Timers
Three timers are
assigned to each lane to time the swimmers in each event. One of these timers
from each lane will be designated as the one to record the swimmer's times on a
time slip.

Runner
Collects the timers'
slips from each lane, disqualification slips from the Strokes & Turn Judge,
and the Place Judge's cards, and delivers them to the scoring table after every
event.

Table Workers
Tabulates and records
diving and swimming scores on three copies of meet sheets.
Set-Up/Clean-Up
Crew
Sets
up scoring tables, flags, lane lines and amplification system before each meet
and puts them away after the meet. Generally makes sure the pool area is cleaned
up and ready for use the next day.

Shepard
Parents
Ensures
that the younger swimmers know their events and are at the starting blocks at
the appropriate time.
Snack
Bar
The team’s only true
fundraiser, the committee always needs help setting up the food and drinks and
then braking down after the meet.
